xxxx视频 Announces Preparatory Faculty Additions for 2019-20


Three new faculty members have been appointed to the xxxx视频 Preparatory and Continuing Education division, joining a distinguished group of educators.

Stanislav Golovin, clarinet; J.c. Sherman, tuba; and Weizhen Yang, piano, will work with students of all ages and experience levels in the preparatory department, teaching private lessons and providing a musical foundation while inspiring students to progress. Golovin and Yang are both alumni of xxxx视频.

鈥淭hese new faculty in our preparatory division exemplify the incredible standard of xxxx视频鈥檚 entire faculty,鈥 said Dr. Judy A. Bundra, chief academic officer & dean of the Conservatory. 鈥淲e are thrilled at the strength each one brings to our students, their departments and the school. Their distinguished records as performers, and most importantly, their teaching experiences, particularly with young musicians, are indicative of the excellence that characterizes a xxxx视频 education.鈥

Golovin has performed as a solo, chamber and orchestral musician throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. Golovin joined the faculty at The University of Akron School of Music in 2017 and is currently a member of Solaris Woodwind Quintet. He has performed with The Cleveland Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Houston Symphony Orchestra, Kansas City Symphony, Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, CityMusic Cleveland, Blossom Festival Orchestra and many others.

An active educator, Golovin has served as a teaching assistant at xxxx视频 and the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance (UMKC). He also has taught at Interlochen Arts Academy and presented master classes at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, University of Iowa, University of South Dakota, University of Missouri-Columbia and others. His primary teachers include xxxx视频 faculty member Franklin Cohen, as well as Nathan Williams and Jane Carl. He received his bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 degrees from xxxx视频 and a doctorate from UMKC.

Currently principal tubist of the Firelands Symphony Orchestra, Sherman is an instructor of tuba & euphonium at Cleveland State University and former principal tubist of Cleveland Opera. He and his students host TubaChristmas Cleveland and Cleveland Tuba-Euphonium Day annually. He performs regularly with the Cleveland POPS and recently celebrated his 22nd season with the Blossom Festival Band. As a chamber performer, he is a member of the Heritage Brass Quintet, Diamond Brass, the NEOTuba Quartet, and co-founder of Olympic Brass and the Cleveland Trombone Collective. He delights in early jazz, performing with The Night Owls, Earlville Jazz Band, The Hot Jazz 7 and the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra. J.c. is co-founder and general director of Orchestra 19, Northeast Ohio鈥檚 new historic performance ensemble featuring concert experiences of the 19th century.

Sherman studied with Ronald T. Bishop (tuba) and Raymond Premru (bass trombone) at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and with Dr. James Albrecht at the University of Akron (bass trombone). His 鈥淪ervice Dogs March鈥 and other arrangements are published through LudwigMasters Publications.

As a recipient of many honors and awards, Yang has performed as a recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician in many parts of the world. As a collaborative pianist, she has performed with members of the New York Philharmonic, The Cleveland Orchestra and Houston Symphony. Her featured performances have been broadcast on classical music stations WQXR in New York and WCLV in Cleveland.

As an educator, Yang enjoys working with students of all ages, from beginners to pre-college students and adults. Her students have participated in various regional, national and international music festivals and competitions, winning top honors. Yang volunteers as a pianist in retirement centers and hospitals. She believes in the power of music to connect, touch, heal and bring people together. Her principal mentors and teachers include former xxxx视频 piano faculty members Paul Schenly, Vitya Vronsky Babin and Eunice Podis. She received her bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 degrees from xxxx视频.

xxxx视频鈥檚 preparatory department offers comprehensive musical training for students ages 3-18 through individual and group lessons, as well as Eurhythmics and music theory classes, various ensembles, and invaluable performance experience.
