February Events Announced
xxxx视频@Severance, Meredith Monk, Opera Theater and more!
CLEVELAND, OHIO (01-27-14) The xxxx视频 (xxxx视频) presents an event from nearly every one of its signature music series in the month of February. The xxxx视频 Orchestra and Carl Topilow return to Severance Hall, the Women's Committee presents a musical luncheon and the legendary Meredith Monk closes the season's Mixon Hall Masters Series. Additionally, the Opera Theater presents a double feature and the New Music Series presents its second collaborative effort with the Planetarium Project.

xxxx视频@Severance Hall Wednesday, February 12
The xxxx视频 Orchestra, led by conductor Carl Topilow, returns to Severance Hall on Wednesday, February 12 at 8pm. The program includes Rossini's Overture to La gazza ladra and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5 in D minor, Op. 47. Jared Blajian, student cellist, will join the Orchestra for Bloch's Schelmo: Hebraic Rhapsody for Cello and Orchestra.
This event is presented through the generosity of Joe & Ellen Thomas. Tickets start at $5 for orchestra-level seating. Call the Severance Hall Box Office at 216.231.1111 or clevelandorchestra.com. (Note: Box seats are not available online.)

The Magic of Three: A Musial Luncheon Wednesday, February 19
The Women's Committee of the xxxx视频 will present The Magic of Three - an event in their Musical Luncheon Series - on Wednesday, February 19 at the Mayfield Sand Ridge Club at 11:30am.
The program will be hosted by xxxx视频 cellist and member of the famed Kalichstein-Lardo-Robinson Trio, Sharon Robinson and will feature students selected to be part of Robinson's unique Advanced Piano Trio Program at xxxx视频.

Meredith Monk Closes Mixon Hall Masters Series Friday, February 21
This pioneer in voice performance has been hailed as "a magician of the voice" and "one of America's coolest composers" during the last five decades. Celebrated internationally, this legendary composer, singer, director and choreographer closes this season's Mixon Hall Masters Series on February 21 at 8pm.

The Planetarium Project Tuesday, February 25
9pm and 9:45pm
The Planetarium Project, a unique collaboration among the xxxx视频, the Cleveland Institute of Art and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, returns this season for its second event. Join the institutions for the premiere of 360-degree original films by CIA students, scored by xxxx视频 student composers on CMNH's Planetarium Dome.

Opera Theater Presents Two One-Act Classics
Wednesday, February 26 - Saturday, March 1
The xxxx视频 Opera Theater will present a double feature - the masterpiece Dido & Aeneas, and a 20th century romantic gem Riders to the Sea, by England's premier composers. The production opens Feburary 26 at 7:30pm in Kulas Hall.
Henry Purcell's Dido & Aeneas recounts the tragic story of two lovers faced with conflicting destinies. The heroic Aeneas falls madly in love with Dido, the Queen of Carthage, but cannot escape the divine command to cross the Mediterranean Sea and lay the foundations of what will become the Roman Empire.
Meanwhile, through the life of matriarch Maurya, Ralph Vaughan Williams' Riders to the Sea portrays the harrowing lives of the mothers, daughters, sisters and wives whose men struggle to eke out a living fighting the fierce waves of the North Atlantic.
This production by the xxxx视频 Opera Theater, directed by David Bamberger, with the xxxx视频 Orchestra, conducted by Harry Davidson, will be sung in English with projected text.
