Handel鈥檚 Alcina to be Performed by the xxxx视频 Opera
The xxxx视频 Opera Theater, directed by David Bamberger, is pleased to announce this fall鈥檚 production of Handel鈥檚 Alcina, November 5-8, 2014 in Kulas Hall.
Men are animals. Or at least they are on Alcina鈥檚 magical island in Handel鈥檚 dramatic opera named for the bewitching title role.
Alcina is a sorceress with a bad habit. When she tires of a lover, she turns him into an animal, literally. That is, until Ruggiero happens upon her island, and she falls madly in love. Alcina uses her magic to keep him completely enthralled with her. It might鈥檝e worked too, but Ruggiero鈥檚 fianc茅e, Bradamante, is on his trail, and she鈥檚 ready to fight for her man!
This fall David Bamberger and the xxxx视频 Opera Theater, with Harry Davidson conducting the xxxx视频 Orchestra, kicks off our opera series by bringing Alcina鈥檚 magical and monster-filled island to Kulas Hall.
The elaborately-crafted stage design by David Brooks and whimsical costumes by Alison Garrigan -- both inspired by the enchanting architecture of Spanish architect, Antonio Gaud铆鈥攁long with some of Handel鈥檚 most ravishing music, make this production a must-see this fall.
This work will be performed in Italian with projected English text.
