Introduction

Richard Weiss is first assistant principal cellist of The Cleveland Orchestra. He was appointed to TCO during his senior year at the Eastman School of Music. He is also a member of the Cleveland Orchestra Piano Trio.

In the summer he teaches at the Kent/Blossom Music Festival, xxxx��Ƶ International Academy and Sphinx Performance Academy. Weiss coaches the cello sections of the xxxx��Ƶ Orchestra and the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida. For the xxxx��Ƶ Preparatory and Continuing Education department, he teaches in the Young Artist Program (YAP), which requires a video audition. Weiss serves as president of the Cleveland Cello Society.

Notable Performances & Accomplishments

Early Success

In high school, he represented California in the Music Teachers National Association competition, where he won the national first prize
At the Tanglewood Festival, he won the Young Artist contest and was concerto soloist
He won positions in the Rochester Philharmonic and Cleveland Orchestra while still a student
